Sarah Elizabeth "Betty” Brucker (Diffendal)

Age 90 of Brentwood died peacefully on July 1, 2015. Beloved daughter of Gregory C. and Anna Rose Diffendal of McKeesport. Devoted wife of the late William J. Brucker, Jr. Loving Mother of William G. (Anne), Christine (Bob) Kircher, Daniel (Diane), Gregory (Rose), Joseph (Lori), Roselyn (Jeff) Carozza, and the late Margaret (Peggy) Daylitko (a Mercy Hospital nurse); adopted mother of Joanne and David Eckert; cherished  grandmother of: William J. III (Stacy), April, and Brenna Brucker; Robert F. III, and Kelsey Kircher; Jaclyn, Jessica, and Christopher Brucker; Gregory, Alex, Isabella and Natalie Brucker; Joseph, Michael and Justin Brucker; and, Peter and Dominic Carozza; adopted grandchildren Grant, Sean, and Daniel Eckert. Sister of Thomas S. (Mary Lou) Diffendal, Sr., and the late Gregory F. Diffendal, Mary Katherine Whitehead, Rose Kulis, James Diffendal and Joseph Diffendal. Dear cousin and friend of Catherine Williams.

During WWII Betty worked in the metallurgical lab of the US Steel Homestead Works. Later she graduated from Shadyside Hospital as an LPN and served her community as a dedicated nurse at Mercy Hospital and Magee Women’s Hospital.

Longtime member of the Brentwood Civic Club, VFW 1810 Ladies Auxiliary, Brentwood Historical Society, Scarlet Minx Red Hat Club and St. Wendelin Church. An avid reader and collector of Department 56 ceramic houses with a village display for each season.

Widowed at age 47, she raised 7 children as a single parent. Mrs. Brucker encouraged advanced education and was proud to say that within her family she had everything she needed for her own village: 5 Pharmacists, 2 Physicians, a distinguished CMU musician, a PhD in chemistry, a BSN, an RN, a Dentist, a CPA, an NYC comedian, a Physician’s Assistant, a Physical Therapist, a Chemical Engineer, a Mechanical Engineer, an attorney, 3 high school valedictorians and 2 salutatorians, with 10 younger grandchildren still discovering their talents.

Special thanks to Dr. Terence Philbin and the nurses of Mercy Hospital for their loving care.

 Friends received at Cieslack & Tatko Funeral Home 2935 Brownsville Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15227 from 2 pm-8 pm Sunday, July 5, 2015. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Wendelin Parish at 10:00 AM. July 6, 2015.

Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery
