Mrs. Bernice Gail “BB” Cherpak (née Culmer), age 79, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the city where she was born on June 26, 1946, and where she spent her life surrounded by the people and places she loved most. Bernice was the daughter to the late Arthur and Dorothy Culmer. Loving wife to David Cherpak. Caring mother to Brett Cherpak and Jessica (Phil) Laux. Proud grandmother to Sophia Laux, Brooke Laux and Tyler Cherpak. Sister to Paula (Chuck) Mahokey. Aunt to Cole (Danelle) Mahokey and great aunt to Jake and Pace Mahokey. Also survived by many loving friends and extended family members.
Bernice dedicated over three decades of her life to the field of healthcare, serving as the Private Practice Director of a Gynecological practice in Oakland, Pennsylvania. Working alongside Dr's. Murphy, Kunshner, and Seski, she became a respected leader and mentor within the medical community. Her strong work ethic and deep compassion for others left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike. After 30 years of service, she retired from her role having made an indelible mark on those around her.
Outside of her professional life, Bernice found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed an activity or celebration, always present with love and support. Her passion for the performing arts brought her great delight, as did her cherished vacations to Aruba with family and friends—trips filled with laughter, sunshine, and treasured memories. A devoted animal lover, she also took great care intending to her beloved cats.
Bernice gave generously of her time to others. She volunteered as an assistant for CCD at St. Thomas A 'Becket Church, offering guidance and support to young members of the parish community.
Those who knew Bernice will remember her selflessness and kind heart. She had a remarkable ability to find goodness in everyone she met and extended warmth and compassion without hesitation.
