75, passed away on August 10,2023 with his family by his side. Born in Sellersburg, Indiana on 07/14/1948. Beloved son of the late William L. Guernsey and Wilma Creamer. Loving husband to the late Roberta M Guernsey who passed in 2016. Caring Dad to Kimberly (Bernie) Matuszak, Billy (Marie) Fraas and Laura Hunt. Proud Pap to Matthew (Jessica) Long, Amber (Matthew) Miller, Corey Fraas, Colyn Fraas, Cayla Fraas, Tyler Hunt, Jessica Hunt, Michael Miles and Raeanne Rusnic. Great grand Pap to Erica Miles, Samantha Miles, Jamie Miles, Brantley Long and Heather Long. Beloved brother to the late Lynn Guernsey and Mary Guernsey. Howard is survived by his sister, Carol Jo Peterson from Sun City, AZ and Brother Charles Guernsey from Seattle, WA.
Howard proudly served in the US Navy for 21 years, where he was awarded numerous accommodation awards and distinguished medals. Howard’s tour of duty took him all around the world starting in 1968 when he enlisted and was sent from San Diego to Midway Island to Scottland, Alaska, Panama and Guam, just mention a few. After many years of traveling his final tour was Washington DC where he retired with an honorable discharge as a Chief, USN. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his career with the US Postal Service, ultimately retiring in Baldwin, Pa
In Howard’s younger years, he helped to serve the public by assisting with numerous activities like aiding underprivileged children enjoy an Eater egg hunt, amongst many other actives with children. He also enjoyed time assisting his dad with the duties of the ministry. That’s to name a few that he was involved in. Howard enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a huge collector of vinal records, Howard also enjoyed spending time relaxing watching his favorite TV show. He was also a hot sauce enthusiast! Howard was well known for making one smile with his quirky sense of humor and quick wit.
Howard held many titles in his life from Butch to “Chief,” but his favorite role was that of being a dad and pap. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his pets. He was always there to listen and offer his love, support and encouragement. Howard’s amazing dedication to his family will be deeply missed.
