Phyllis Marie Dudenhoefer (April 7, 1944 - May 13, 2024)
Beloved sister and aunt, Phyllis Dudenhoefer, passed away peacefully during her sleep from
chronic respiratory problems.at Riverside Care Center, near Pittsburgh PA.
Born in 1944 in Erie, PA, Phyllis was born to Raymond Dudenhoefer and Theresa (Warnoff)
Dudenhoefer. She was known for being the big sister to Susan Rose and Karen Rae. She was
preceded in death by her father, Raymond in 1981 and her mother “Terry” in 2005.
Phyllis attended special education at Erie Tech High School. She later served special needs
children as a junior teachers-aide at the Gertrude Barber Center. Phyllis was a faithful daughter
and companion who helped her parents in their frail years. After her mother’s illness (and
subsequent passing) she made her home with Susan and her daughter Beth Lynn (Eicher) in
Whitehall Borough, near Pittsburgh, PA.
The Church community was important to Phyllis. She was well known at St. Luke’s Church
where she sang in the choir through the 1990s. Later she attended Bread of Life community. She
loved spirit-filled folk mass music. With a faithful heart, she went on a group pilgrimage to the
Fatima Shrine of Our Lady in Portugal. She enjoyed religious sanctuaries closer to her Erie home
including the Stations of the Cross St Mark’s Seminary. She also enjoyed walking to Catholic
churches during earlier visits to Pittsburgh including St. Mary’s on the Mount and St. Gabriel’s
Sorrowful Virgin.
For many years, Phyllis saw roses every day, which was a sign that the Blessed Mother was
with you. Take the time and you will see them too.
Phyllis enjoyed her years living with Susan Rose in Whitehall, going to the pool and chatting
with the ladies at the snack bar. Later she attended Community Life Day Center in Pittsburgh
where she joined many other participants and staff, whom she considered her friends. In her
final years, she enjoyed Riverside Nursing Home of McKeesport playing bingo, sharing treats,
and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. She watched heartfelt TV reruns such as Andy of
Mayberry and Little House on the Prairie. She recently had a well-attended, festive 80th birthday
with the residents and family.
Phyllis is survived by her sisters Susan Rose (Dudenhoefer) and Karen Rae Dudenhoefer
VivenzIo (Peter) as well as her niece Beth Lynn Eicher (William) and her grandnephew, Luke
Eicher. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Phyllis did not like funerals but enjoyed gatherings with family and friends.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 3-5 pm. at the Funeral Home.
