Sylvia Duda Obituary

Sylvia Evosevich Duda, 89, passed away on August 17, 2025 in Thousand Oaks, California where she was a beloved member of the community for over 50 years. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 15, 1935, she was very proud to hail from Pittsburgh’s South Side.

She was the loving mother of Thomas (Carolyn) Duda, Jr, Nicola Duda, and Michael Duda of California; the proud grandmother (“Baba”) of Zachary (Sarah) Duda, Hillary (Kyle) Duda LaBeaune, Michael Shea, Jack Shea, and Thomas Shea of California; the proud step-grandmother of Garrett (Camille) Adams-Helm of Oregon; and the proud great grandmother of Brooklyn Duda of California. She is also survived by many very dear friends and extended family members.

She was the daughter of the late Sarah and Dmitar Evosevich, the sister of the late Dr. Bosanka Evosevich and the late Martha Lazarevic, and the half-sister of the late Nicholas Evosevich.

She dedicated over three decades of her life to teaching physical education and science in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Thousand Oaks, California. She was a respected and loved teacher and colleague.

Her free spirit and great sense of humor left a lasting impression on anyone who met her. After her retirement from teaching, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and visiting Pittsburgh whenever she could.

Those who knew her will remember her warm smile and laugh and her ability to keep every conversation interesting with her funny and clever anecdotes.

Her burial will take place at 12pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at St George Cemetery, 790 Stewart Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
